About Place of Rest

Place of Rest is a free community grave locator built to make it easier for families and visitors to find the final resting place of a loved one.

Why it exists

Finding a grave can be difficult even when you know the cemetery. Burial records may not be easy to access, plot references can be hard to interpret, and larger cemeteries can take a long time to search on foot.

Place of Rest brings the useful parts together: search by name, view the memorial record, see the recorded grave location on a map and use your phone to help navigate when location data is available.

Community-built records

The database grows through cemetery records and respectful community contributions. Volunteers and families can submit missing people, headstone photographs, grave locations and corrections.

Contributions are reviewed before publication. Coverage varies by cemetery and is not yet complete, so a person not appearing in search does not mean they are not buried there.

Read the Contributions Policy for the standards applied to information and photographs submitted to the project.

Help improve the coverage

If you know that someone is missing, or you can provide an accurate grave location or headstone photograph, choose the relevant cemetery and submit what you know. Even a single accurate record can help a family.

Who runs Place of Rest?
